This month, the Papertrey Ink design team is celebrating some people who are very special in our lives, our mothers. When I read about this assignment, I was very excited. My mom is one of my very best friends. I talk to her all the time on the phone (and live about 10 minutes from her). She is always the first person I call when I have a question about raising my kids. I can talk to her about anything and she is always one of my biggest supporters in everything I do. I love you, Mom! Thank you for everything you do!
For my gift, I decided to create an altered notebook and beaded pen that coordinate with my card. I love the little notebooks from Target. They are nice looking and so easy to alter. I used Garden of Life (because my mom loves carnations and this flower reminds me of a carnation even though it probably isn't one *wink*) to create some custom patterned paper which I used on my altered notebook and on my card.
Once I cut the patterned paper for my notebook, I added some black stitching before adhering it to my notebook. Then, I added a true black scalloped strip and tied my spring rain satin ribbon around the cover. I stitched a true black vintage button in the center. I absolutely love the font and flourish on the "Mother" sentiment. Isn't it gorgeous?! I stamped the sentiment, added some spring rain photo corners behind it along with a true black layer, and stitched some buttons in the corner. I added it to my notebook using foam adhesive and added a few tiny rhinestones to finish it off.
My card was created with the same essential steps as the notebook.
I also finished off the inside of my card. I cut my white cardstock, stamped a flower in the corner, added some black stitching and wrapped a spring rain satin ribbon along the edge before adhering the layer to my card. Then, I stamped my sentiment, added some mats, and adhered it to the inside of my card.
Last, I created a beaded pen that coordinates with my set. I used another piece of my hand stamped patterned paper. Since I stamped it on white cardstock, I wrapped it around my pen to loosen it up before adding any adhesive.
Nichole has a pdf file on her blog that has supply lists and step by step instructions for each of my items along with all of the items created by the other design team ladies. Talk about a ton of inspiration! Be sure to visit all the design team ladies and let them know how much you appreciate all their hard work: Becky, Betsy, Dawn, Debbie, Geny, Heather, Lauren, Lisa, Melissa, Mish, and, of course, Nichole, who not only created an amazing jewelry box gift set, but also put together that amazing pdf file, too! Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!!
Niki

Ok.. I hope this doesn't sound creepy... When I went to bed last night I got this impression that I needed to see something you've created. I was almost like, I missed you. I missed something you shared on your blog and I needed to come see it.
That was 17 hours ago. I forgot all about it until I was going through my email and saw your blog update message in my inbox.
I'm just now getting a chance to come see this wonderful mom project. Not sure if this was the one I HAD to come see but I love it!
Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful creations.

The trio is gorgeous. I love the classic look of the set, and I am sure your mother will love it. Enjoy your mother while you have her. I miss mine so much. She's been gone since 1988. I look a lot like her and sometimes its as if she is looking at me from the mirror. And the love continues.
God Bless
Marie
